Bowling is one of those sports that takes a lot of practice to master. There are such a wide variety of shots that you bowling-leagues-in-phoenixneed to perfect in order to become a great bowler that most people won’t stick with it and reach their full potential. I used to love going out and bowling with friends, grabbing a few beers, and having a good time. There’s nothing wrong with a little recreational bowling with a group of people but if you want to take your game to the next level, joining a league may be a great option for you. Just so you know, there are plenty of bowling leagues in the greater Phoenix area that allow drinking pitchers of beer during the games so you don’t have to worry about joining an intensely competitive league if that’s not what you’re looking for.

AMF Christown Lanes was the first bowling league I ever joined. I had been bowling off an on for about 5 years but never went more than a few times per year so needless to say, my skills were pretty average. When I joined this league, I didn’t really know what to expect. It was quite a different experience than joining the softball league because when I joined the softball league, I had a few friends on the team so I felt pretty comfortable joining them to play. When I joined the bowling league, I didn’t know anyone and wasn’t very good at bowling so I felt very nervous for my first league game. I made the smart choice of joining a league that was full of beginner bowlers so that certainly helped me in my first bowling league excursion. After I got to the bowling alley for our first game, I greeted everyone and introduced myself. It turns out that only 2 of the players on the team knew each other and the other 2 players were just like me and didn’t know anybody. For 3 out of the 5 of us, this was our first bowling league and we didn’t really know what to expect so we all hit it off pretty quickly. Our first game went as you would probably expect and we got beat by over 50 points. We were playing a team that had been playing together for a couple of seasons but we still gave them a good game until the last round which gave us all some much needed confidence. The rest of the season was awesome and we all wound up coming in 3rd place out of 10 teams and had a lot of fun doing it.

If you’re scared to join a bowling league, don’t be. Just like the golf and softball leagues we’ve talked about, bowling has different leagues for all sorts of players including first time bowlers all the way up to semi-professionals. There are so many leagues that accommodates all sorts of different schedules it’s hard not to find an option that wouldn’t work for you. If you’re worried about not knowing anybody, I can tell you from experience that you shouldn’t be worried about it. Everyone that joins a beginner level bowling league is there to have fun and enjoy a little comradery between team mates. While it might be a little nerve wrecking at first, trust me when I say you’ll find your groove and will be bowling strikes left and right in no time.
